Pentland State School is located 250 kilometres West of Townsville on the Flinders Highway, and forms part of the North Queensland Region of schools. Pentland State School is also part of a cluster of small schools within the Dalrymple Cluster of schools. Pentland State School is committed to the Dalrymple Alliance. The Dalrymple Alliance is a cluster of small schools which believes that there are many advantages to being educated in a small rural multi-age school. We believe in working to produce the best outcomes for the students.

Pentland State School offers a curriculum that is based on the Australian Curriculum and the 'Queensland Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting' (QCAR) essential learning framework. Students in year 5 and 6 have the opportunity to learn Japanese as their LOTE (Languages other than English) subject.

Pentland State School is an approved Kindergarten. Five days a fortnight, we offer an approved play based kindergarten program  to children who are at least four years old by 30 June in the year they start the program.

Our school’s Kindergarten program is based on the Queensland kindergarten learning guideline which provides advice for planning, interacting with children, monitoring and assessing learning as teachers engage children in active, language rich learning through play, real-life engagements, routines and transitions.  Foundations for Success is a resource which acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples ways of knowing and being and supports the embedding of personal and cultural identities and connections with families and communities in the learning program. The kindergarten program further develops children’s thinking and problem-solving skills as well as their language, social and creative capabilities. These skills form the foundations for engaging in the content of the Foundation – Year 2 requirements of the Australian Curriculum, supporting continuity of learning for children across kindergarten to Year 2 and a successful transition to Prep.

The staff at Pentland State School understands that a close, positive working relationship with parents and the community is essential to the quality of education our school can provide. Our school is the heart of our local area – our school buildings and grounds are home to many community events and organisations. We have a wonderfully supportive community.

Our mission statement

In a supportive partnership, provide for the development of each child, the attitude, skills and knowledge needed to cope with the demands of living in our society.
